96th Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: one of the world’s biggest horserace
Before the Longchamp racecourse reopens in 2018, this legendary race – first organized in 1920 – will once again be held in the historic surroundings of Chantilly. The world’s finest pacers will compete in what is reputedly the top sporting race of the year, watched by 45,000 spectators in the stands and one billion television viewers worldwide! Considered the world champion, the winner is awarded a prize of €5 million. The 96th event features 15 flat races with the most talented thoroughbreds aged three and over, from countries including Britain, Germany and Japan, competing over a distance of 2,400 meters (about 1.5 mile). The race is one of the highlights of the fall for celebrities and Paris high society.
