One of the world’s leading sporting events, the Ryder Cup is a golf competition contested by two teams of twelve players from the US and Europe. A biannual tournament of one-on-one and two-on-two matches, it was first played in the 1920s. This year it is being held in France for the first time, in Guyancourt, at the Golf National, which has three courses, including the Albatros, one of the most beautiful in the Paris region, and renowned for its challenging water obstacles and unforgiving roughs. In 2016, the US team won in Hazeltine, in Chaska, Minnesota, and it remains to be seen if they’ll triumph again in 2018. The Ryder Cup returns to the US in 2020, at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.
