Corot The painter and his models
Corot’s landscapes of Ville d’Avray, Auvers-sur-Oise and Florence are a familiar sight. This masterly exhibition widens this focus to include all genres, from intimate effigies to curious nudes, portraits of children, fashionable ladies, peasants and studio models. Although his interest in light and preference for painting outdoors made him a pioneer of open-air landscapes, he cut his cloth close to the neo-Classical tradition of his training. This exhibition, which brings together some sixty works from the most prestigious collections in the world, sheds light on this first modern landscape artist through a pitch-perfect chronological display.
