Hotel Barrière Le Fouquet’s The rebirth of an institution

Fouquet’s Paris on the Champs-Élysées has been a favorite haunt for movie stars and celebrities since it opened as a brasserie in 1899. Now, after several months of refurbishment work, the hotel has revealed its new 5-star showcase, designed by Jacques Garcia. We visited this new look embassy of French culture.

Luxury brasserie Fouquet’s gained a worldwide reputation following its opening at the start of the 20th century before becoming a 5-star hotel in 2006. Combining six historical buildings on the Champs-Élysées and the avenue George V, architect Édouard François successfully created a unified location for this jewel in the crown of the French family hotel group run by Dominique Desseigne. Then, if there is one person who has fully grasped the essence of Fouquet’s, it is interior architect Jacques Garcia. He was given a free hand to renovate the 81 rooms – including 19 additional ones planned in the new wing of the hotel for 2018. Garcia also adeptly ‘groomed’ the brasserie, a listed historical monument, changing its net curtains, carpets and light fittings. For the hotel and its rooms, he came up with a décor that blends classicism, baroque and surrealism. It would be hard to label or compare the designer’s creations: today, Garcia’s approach is seen as a style in itself.

The small lobby lounges are very much in the Haussmannian spirit. They encourage guests to wander, relax and generally take their time. Upstairs, Joy Restaurant & Bar serves breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails. It looks out on an entirely redesigned interior garden. We should also remember that, a little further down, Fouquet’s luxury brasserie (open 7 days a week) presents a menu from renown Chef Gagnaire.

Hotel Barrière Le Fouquet’s continues to weave its enchantment on the upper floors, where the rooms and suites are cocoons of comfort and technology. New suites with spectacular views over the Champs-Élysées will be opening in a few months’ time, with magical library settings in mahogany, ostrich leather chairs and velvet couches. As for the Presidential Suite – a sumptuous apartment of 250 sq. m. – it will become the Grande Suite de Paris (535 sq. m.) when the entire sixth floor goes private. To complete the sense of luxury, a butler service is available to all the hotel’s guests. Finally, how could a stay in Paris on an avenue brimming with the finest stores be complete without opportunities for relaxation? Hotel Barrière Le Fouquet’s offers welcome respite in a setting that is perfect for a break from the bustle of Parisian life. Covering 750 sq. m., the new Spa Diane Barrière holds a 15m swimming pool, six treatment cabins and of course two steam baths, a sauna and a fitness gym.

A cultural, artistic, gastronomic and recreational institution, Hotel Barrière Le Fouquet’s has enhanced its reputation in the French capital. There, Parisians and visitors from all over the world will discover a temple to hospitality whose identity is stronger and whose charm is greater than ever before.
