La Mangerie

Nestled in the Marais district, near the Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine, Serge Ahovey’s trendy eatery oozes appeal, with its original vintage style and its large central table with an olive tree growing up through the middle. Food-wise, Adrian Calvo is up to the mark. First off, with sourcing, for he gets his daily supplies from Thierry Breton for the bread, Lalauze for the meats, Reynaud for the fish and Halle Prestige for the fruits and vegetables. And while all these ingredients generally find themselves in the fridges of gourmet or star-studded restaurants, this is tapas fare with a twist (and to share!) : slivered beef with risotto (€10.60), crispy chicken with peanut sauce (€9.60), patatas bravas (€7.50), banana Nutella tiramisu (€9). It’s quite tasty and lots of fun. Bear in mind, however, that these are large-size tapas and that two or three plates should be ample to satisfy your appetite. For those who don’t like to share, two burgers also feature on the menu (€18.30). Young, bobo clientele. Charming service, very “buddy-buddy” (a tad overwhelmed on busy nights). Sunday brunch (€27 and €7 for kids 2 to 10) with the bonus of a nanny who will help entertain your children. Their second location, La Petite Mangerie, with a shorter menu, is open non-stop from Tuesday to Sunday, noon to midnight (5, rue de Bretagne, Paris 3rd).
