Le Balcon

A spectacular start for the Philharmonie de Paris, which has not only resumed its concert series, but also inaugurated a spacious restaurant on the top floor of the new Jean Nouvel building. A chic brasserie with a beautiful, modern design in slate tones by Frédéric Druot featuring black tables in a medley of shapes, chairs covered in swatches of brocaded fabric and a vast glass façade that affords a breathtaking view over the treetops and rooftops of eastern Paris. Le Balcon moves at several paces, so it’s the perfect place to meet for a cocktail by the inhouse mixologist, snack on a platter of coldcuts or cheese with a glass of wine, or have dinner with friends. The menu by the young and talented chef Karil Lopez focuses on three products selected each season, like the codfish, Ancenis chicken and Charolais beef for fall 2015. All the makings of a fine meal: a tasty codfish ceviche with olive oil and lime (€16), followed by fish & chips and tartar sauce with a twist (€18), and last but not least a lovely tropical fruit macaronade (€11) concocted by a savvy pastry chef, formerly in charge of the Maison du Chocolat. A friendly and unique spot worth discovering.
