Aix-en-Provence’s iconic candy, the calisson now has its very own store in Paris: the 100 sq.m. Confiserie du Roy René on the busy rue de Lévis. A family business for three generations, Roy René is enjoying a new lease of life after being bought by the founder of L’Occitane. That’s how these candies, made from crushed candied fruit – mostly melon – and blanched almonds, with at least 32% paste, came to be presented under glass domes or in traditional boxes in Paris! Sitting under a charming glass ceiling, customers can also sample the brand’s other specialties including nougat, chocolate-covered orange and fruit jelly in the exquisite tearoom.
