Le Grand Café d’Athènes

A duo of passionate professionals, Chloé Monchalin and Benjamin Rousselet decided to pool their talents and launch into a Greek-style street food adventure! And so in 2014 Filakia was born, with a host of variations on souvlaki. A resounding success that encouraged the young entrepreneurs in the early summer of 2019 to open a real restaurant in the 10th arrondissement, featuring a menu worthy of the best taverns in Athens. All the ingredients are there to create an exotic atmosphere, troweled walls highlighted with pale green paint, white marble bar and tables, typical tableware with colorful earthenware plates imported from the island of Sifnos. A pleasant terrace out front provides seating for around fifteen. An atmosphere conducive to taking a break and enjoying a menu of dishes prepared with quality ingredients sourced from excellent suppliers such as the Greek grocer’s Kilikio. It is already a draw for many customers who partake in a few delicious mezzedes to go with their aperitif (from €5 to €11), or a refreshing starter of watermelon, cantaloupe, 6-month barrel-aged frosted feta, organic olive oil and baby mint (€9). And while souvlaki – for here or to go – takes pride of place here too, we recommend opting for one of the dishes on the menu, like the organic sea bass ravioli with garlic, parsley, crushed potato, lemon and olive oil (€21). For dessert, a creamy frozen Greek yogurt with thyme honey and green granola (€8) does just the trick. A location worth your while !
