The Dude

Charles Sanjuan and André Rousseau joined forces to open The Dude, near the Porte Saint-Denis.

Entrusted with the interior design, Atelier Noma created a bright, streamlined setting with light wood table tops, British racing green bench seating and a kitchen widely open onto the dining room, where diners can enjoy their lunch at a long counter. Another stylish touch: the menu shirks the oft-repeated trio of starter, main dish and dessert, offering instead small dishes to share (or not!).

On the night of our visit, the menu by chef Geoffrey Rambert (formerly of the Bristol, Lazare and Tour d’Argent) featured delicious black “baos” with raw tuna and cilantro (€6), a fun egg yolk confit with carrot and orange (€8), a surprising beet purée with hibiscus and rice chips (€8), a delectably moist and tender grilled pork belly with peanuts (€10), or a lovely surf and turf dish of beef and shellfish (€12).

Be sure to try to save room for the strawberry/mojito baba (€10). Short but well-chosen wine list, with some selections offered by the glass on a wall board. For lunch, the restaurant has a €19 special (starter and main dish or main dish and dessert) or a full prix-fixe menu for €24. Delightful Sunday lunch served by the plate for €25.
