La Tour d’Argent

This illustrious, world-renowned Parisian restaurant, perched on the 7th floor with a stunning view over the River Seine and Notre Dame Cathedral, has seen a slew of high-profile politicians, business tycoons and celebrities of all walks of life… even though the restaurant has lost some of the luster of the days when it still had three stars, thanks to the mind-blowing cuisine of Dominique Bouchet. André Terrail, who now holds the restaurant’s future in his hands, decided to go for the gold and entrust the kitchen to Philippe Labbé, two-star chef from L’Abeille at the Shangri-La hotel. Since then, La Tour d’Argent seems to have found a new youth and the floor staff, under the direction of Stéphane Trapier, a new surge of enthusiasm. The new menu is admittedly enticing and our most recent meal there was nothing short of astounding. The frog’s legs with nettles, razor clams, sunchokes and crumble (€68) were exceptional. The honey-roasted supreme of Challans duck with spices, cherry vinegar jus and muesli (€79) is an original tribute to the famous Tour d’Argent duck. And the Vie Parisienne pear with vanilla cream, caramel and milkshake (€36), an exquisite twist on a dessert classic. True, the famous Tour d’Argent duck is no longer a permanent fixture on the menu, but if you have your heart set on trying it, they won’t refuse you the pleasure. The wine list remains one of the city’s finest, and David Ridgway will be sure to find the perfect bottles to accompany your meal. The rebirth of a restaurant that is well worth discovering or rediscovering! Tasting menu at €350. Prix-fixe lunch menu at €105 and duck-themed menu at €195.
