Tornello

We were simply looking for a good pizza on a weeknight, and discovered a restaurant just steps from Place des Vosges that transports you straight to Naples.

Its name, Tornello, is the Italian translation of the street where it is located – a detail that reflects the care behind the project. Stone walls, marble tables, leather banquettes, and an open kitchen from which aromas of flour, truffle, and warm tomato sauce emerge: the setting is warm, lively, and authentic without ever feeling contrived. Downstairs, a vaulted stone room accommodates up to 30 guests, making it well suited for birthdays or group dinners. Here, the basics are taken seriously. The dough is made with natural sourdough and a blend of heritage flours, industrial mozzarella is replaced by fior di latte, and the tomato sauce is entirely homemade. The result is a light, digestible pizza with a delicate crispness, as illustrated by the Parma (€18): tomato sauce, fior di latte, oregano, Parma ham, shaved grana, and basil cream.

Those who prefer pasta can turn to the house-made fresh options, such as the mezza luna with porcini (€19), filled pasta served with a creamy sauce with subtle woodland notes. For dessert, the pistachio sabayon, prepared to order, stands out as a memorable finale.

The wine list spans Italy from Piedmont to Sicily, via Tuscany. A carefully executed address, with a weekday lunch menu at €19 from Wednesday to Friday.
