La Table de Marie Jeanne

Olivier Andreani joined forces with Charlotte Massoni to open a delightful contemporary rôtisserie. Designed by Marie Versini, the neo-bistro boasts a most pleasant setting, with its vintage chairs, bucolic frescos and a long table d’hôtes bathed in the light of colored-glass ceiling lamps. But the best place to be, if you are no more than four, is seated at the high counter opposite the spit gently turning with beautiful pieces of meat and poultry. The day of our visit, delicious zucchini fritters prepared Corsica-style (no doubt a recipe of Marie-Jeanne, who is Olivier Andréani’s mother and the famous chef of the U San Dume hotel restaurant in Cateri, near Calvi) kicked off the single, astonishing prix-fixe menu at only e26. We then tasted the flavorful roasted pork belly, the perfect combination of crispy skin and tender meat, as well as a lovely rosé fillet of duck. All dishes were accompanied with herb-roasted potatoes. And if you still have any room, you will have the choice of a few classic desserts: vanilla rice pudding, chocolate charlotte with whipped cream, rustic apple pie… or the Régalis César, a blue ewe’s cheese from the Pyrenees, all for the unique price of e5 extra on the prix-fixe menu. The short wine list features owner-grower wines at reasonable prices, like the Languedoc AOC Les Darons 2014 from Jeff Carrel at e23. Friendly, attentive service.
