Apollinaire evenings bring poetry back to les Deux Magots
Artists climbing onto café tables to recite poetry and rally the audience inevitably evokes Dead Poets Society. And that is no coincidence: Peter Weir’s iconic film inspired Les Soirées Apollinaire, a new quarterly gathering at Les Deux Magots. Created in collaboration with the Poetry Club and Grosso Modo, the event highlights contemporary poets who present their work to the audience of the legendary Saint-Germain café. There is no stage here – only the tables of the historic establishment transformed into improvised podiums. The atmosphere is musical, lively, and joyfully spontaneous, restoring poetry to its most immediate and collective form.
