Given the name, we expected this to be a kitsch eatery with cushions here, frills there and chill-out music in the background. How wrong we were! The spacious barge’s hundred-square-meter deckhouse is ornamented with a few miniature palms, but the décor is far from fussy and the whole has something of a river picnic style. Also, this new floating restaurant has an unobstructed view of the Île Saint Louis, so what is not to like? Especially given that while the dishes on the menu are simple with no grand gastronomic pretentions, they are still very satisfying, especially because of their provenance. The fruit and vegetables are from Joël Thiébault, the bread from Thierry Breton (La Pointe du Groin) and the cooked meats supplied by small producers from Spain and the Basque Country. The wines are just as carefully sourced. Marc-Antoine Surand, the captain on board, visits talented young winegrowers to select quality products, such as Nicolas Millérioux’s admirable Sancerre or Pierre Gaillard’s congenial Côtes du Rhône. These wines tastefully accompany the selection of cooked meats (€9 or €14 depending on the size), the delicious ‘Mademoiselle Rose’ sandwich (€7), the tasty whole baked camembert cheese with cooked meats (€14), the crisp mixed salads (from €12 to €15) or the excellent panna cotta.
