A new Romantic gallery At the Petit Palais

One of the Ville de Paris’ most delightful museums, the Petit Palais is more irresistible than ever after opening a new red-painted gallery dedicated to the Romanic period. Bringing together paintings and sculptures by Boilly, Géricault, David d’Angers, Delacroix, Couture, Millet and Carpeaux, it also features two large canvases ordered to decorate the Hôtel-de-Ville de Paris following the 1830 revolution. Almost identical in size, until only recently they were relegated to the museum’s store room. These two works, The Takers of the Bastille in Front of the Hôtel de Ville on 14 July 1789 by Paul Delaroche and Battle in Front the Hôtel de Ville, 28 July 1830 by Victor Schnetz, were restored with support from the galerie Mendes and the Fonds de dotation Carré Rive Gauche.
