Hugo & Co
After shaking up the 7th arrondissement with Tomy & Co, he has now opened a new restaurant in the 5th, Hugo & Co. A native of Cambodia, he draws inspiration from international street food to concoct a creative menu. Breaking with the somewhat more sophisticated and gastronomic spirit of Tomy & Co, the decor by Richard Lafond sticks to the basics with small wooden tables and crate-like shelving, while managing to create a friendly atmosphere with a view of the open kitchen.
Enjoy stracciatella with black olives, wild garlic and gomasio; a quinoa, avocado and organic egg salad with radish, kale and mushrooms; grilled and smoked mackerel with rosemary, fregola and shiitake in chimichurri sauce, and the surprising guanciale pancakes (slightly over-grilled, in our opinion). For dessert, the mango ice cream and fromage blanc tapioca or the little madeleines served warm with lemon curd are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. All of the ingredients are obviously top quality, as the chef gives preference to organic and local producers.
Everything is delicious, but the hardest part is choosing a harmony of starters and dishes to channel the explosion of extremely varied flavors. Come sunny weather, the bay windows open fully onto the street-side terrace, a pleasant reminder of the bistro’s “gourmet street food” register.
